Ram Rampage Small Truck Debuts To Fight Ford Maverick

Stellantis has not been quiet about the global potential of the Ram truck brand, and it was only a matter of time before we saw another installment to the brand lineup. Ram Brazil has gone ahead and pulled the tarp off another new exciting pickup truck, one that's been highly anticipated all the way to now. Officially, it's called the Rampage (not Ram 1200, nor Ram Dakota), and if you mistook its design for the full-sized Ram 1500 truck, perhaps that was the point.

Yes, there is a catch. The new Ram Rampage has only been confirmed for the Brazilian and Argentinian markets, where the Ford Maverick is also sold. Unfortunately, the United States and Canada appear to be on the outside looking in when it comes to this new small truck. Which is a travesty for a market that's been absolutely starved of small trucks for years. Yes, the USA and Canada have the Maverick, but Ford continues to struggle with meeting demand for the small truck, while everybody else appears to be leaving money on the table.

For now, official details are slim, but reports out of Brazil state that there's a 2.0L Hurricane engine under the hood that's good for 270 hp and about 290 lb-ft of torque, paired to a nine-speed transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Allegedly, the engine will eventually get replaced by a larger 2.2L engine. The Rampage also shares a platform with the Fiat Toro, aka the Ram 1000, but is slightly longer and comes in crew cab only.

Of course, we’ve reached out to Stellantis for official comment on what the USA and Canadian markets can expect when it comes to a small truck from Ram, which would no doubt do well. The marketing materials make a point to mention a North American collaboration with the Ram team fixed in the Stellantis HQ in Auburn Hills, Michigan. And perhaps that's good foreshadowing. But other than that, the only thing we can expect for sure up here is an electric midsize truck from Ram.
