A century of growth
For over a century, Ontario gardeners have been growing with Sheridan Nurseries, a pioneer of Canadian horticulture.
Its roots date back to 1911 when British landscape architects Howard and Lorrie Dunington-Grubb arrived in Toronto with dreams of bringing the concept of the English garden here to Canada.
It's hard to imagine now but, at that time, there were virtually no private gardens or landscape architecture in the country and no nurseries here that could produce the plants they needed. So, in 1913, they started their own, purchasing 100 acres of land near Sheridan, Ont. (now part of Oakville) in order to cultivate ornamental plants, marking the beginning of Sheridan Nurseries as we know it today.
Now, with eight garden centres and over 900 acres of farmland, Sheridan Nurseries is one of the largest growers in the country, continually innovating and inspiring green thumbs with products and services to create dream landscapes and backyard havens.
The farms grow over 1,200 cultivars of perennials and hardy nursery stock, and ship over 1.8 million plants annually to markets across northeastern North America, including Sheridan Nurseries’ retail garden centres.
Throughout its history, Sheridan Nurseries has also introduced several plants of its own, including Green Gem, Green Mountain and Green Velvet Boxwood, Ivory Silk Lilac Tree, Mountbatten Juniper, Glenleven Linden and DeGroot's Spire Cedar, to name a few.
From seed-starting supplies to beautiful blooms of annual colour, show-stopping perennials, flowering shrubs, statement trees, stunning patio furniture and backyard accessories, Sheridan Nurseries has everything you need to help you create a welcoming landscape, nurture a bed of pollinator-friendly flowers, or grow a plot of delicious, fresh vegetables.
